How does e-bike servicing differ from regular bike servicing?
E-bike servicing is similar to regular bike servicing, as electric components don't require routine maintenance.
Do e-bikes provide exercise?
Yes, e-bikes offer a customizable workout experience, as riders can adjust the motor assistance level to suit their desired level of exertion. Some researches have shown e-bikes could be even more effective for exercise or weight loss compared to regular bikes if the ebike is used on the lower pedal assist level so that the bike only provides minimum assistance while still allowing the rider to put a good amount of energy into riding. If you use pedal assist level 1 or 2 of an ebike, you can ride distances up to 3 times more than you could on a regular bike. Riding a bike at those levels, you will burn 70% of the calories you would if you were riding a regular bike. Provided that you can ride 3 times longer distances, it means you can burn two times more calories using an ebike compared to reqular bikes.
Are EONRIDE-bikes and scooters waterproof? Can I ride in the rain?
Our e-bikes and scooters are water-resistant but not submersible. Avoid using pressure hoses or jet power washers when cleaning.
ls a licence required to ride an e-bike?
No licence is needed if your e-bike complies with Australian road legality standards.
Which frame type is best for me: step-over or step-through?
When it comes to choosing a bike frame type, there are a few factors to consider. Step-over and step-through frames are the two main options, each with their own advantages and considerations.
Step-over frames:
Step-over frames are the traditional choice and are characterized by a top tube that runs from the handlebars to the seat post. It is believed that step-over frames are lighter and more rigid, making them ideal for riders who prioritize speed and performance. However, due to advancements in frame technology, many step-through frames are now just as light and provide comparable strength. Therefore, the advantages of step-over frames are no longer as significant as they once were.
Step-through frames:
Step-through frames, on the other hand, offer more practicality and ease of use. With a step-through frame, you can get on and off the bike without having to lift your leg over the top tube. This convenience is especially beneficial for riders who prioritize practicality over the aesthetics of the bike. Step-through frames are also better suited for shorter riders, as the top tube of a step-over frame may make it difficult for them to stand over it comfortably.
If a bike is going to be shared among family members with different genders and heights, a step-through frame is recommended. Additionally, if you plan on carrying a surfboard on your bike, a step-through frame is better since you won't have to step over the frame and the surfboard rack each time you want to get on or off the bike.
However, it's important to note that some customers prefer the look of a step-over bike. Furthermore, a top tube can be useful if you need to mount a child seat at the front or carry cargo, or if you want to attach various accessories to the frame.
It's up to you to decide which frame type is best for your needs or looks more appealing to you. However, if you can't decide, we would suggest going with the step through frame.
A few years ago, 70% of our customers preferred the step over frame and 30% preferred the step through frame. Now the trend has changed towards the step through frame, with 60% of our customers choosing it and 40% going with the step over frame.
What type of handlebars should I get?
When choosing bike handlebars, it is important to consider your riding style, comfort, and the type of terrain you'll be riding on. The right handlebars can greatly enhance your cycling experience by improving control, reducing fatigue, and providing a comfortable riding position.
Flat Handlebars
Flat handlebars are generally straight and provide a more lean forward riding position. This positioning improves handling and maneuverability of the bike, making it more suitable for aggressive, speedy rides or off-road cycling. The aerodynamic advantage of the forward lean allows the rider to cut through wind resistance more efficiently, resulting in a faster ride.
However, the downside of flat handlebars is that they put more pressure on your back, wrists, and shoulders. This can lead to discomfort, especially on longer rides, as it requires the rider to support their upper body weight more. The more aggressive riding position may cause fatigue and strain on the rider's back muscles, limiting their endurance.
Additional facts about flat handlebars include:
- They are often found on mountain bikes, hybrid bikes, and certain road bikes.
- They provide better control and stability when navigating technical terrain.
- They offer a wider grip, allowing for better leverage when maneuvering through obstacles.
Riser Bars
Riser bars, as the name suggests, have upward bends in the handlebar, creating a higher grip position compared to flat handlebars. This design provides an upright seating position, promoting a more relaxed and comfortable ride. The upright riding position reduces strain on the back and offers a more ergonomic fit for many riders.
Riser bars are well-suited for leisurely rides, long excursions, or commuting where rider comfort and endurance are prioritized over aggressive handling. The more upright placement of the hands and upper body distributes weight more evenly, reducing strain on the back and shoulders and increasing your level of endurance during extended rides.
Other facts about riser bars include:
- They are commonly found on city bikes and cruisers bikes.
- They provide a wider field of vision as the rider sits more upright.
- They are generally compatible with a wider range of riding styles and skill levels.
Can I ride an e-bike without motor assistance?
Yes, but be prepared for increased effort due to the added weight and motor drag. Alternatively, try setting the motor assistance to the lowest level for a similar experience to a regular bike.
How long does the battery last? How can I extend battery life?
EONRIDE batteries last 500-1000 recharge cycles or 2-4 years.
Battery Maintenance and Prolonging Life Tips
Proper maintenance of your eBike battery is essential to ensure its longevity and optimal performance. By following these tips, you can prolong the life of your battery and enjoy a more reliable riding experience.
1. Charge between 20% to 80%
Keeping your eBike battery's charge level between 20% and 80% can help double its longevity. Avoid draining the battery completely or letting it sit at full charge for extended periods.
2. Avoid Extreme Temperatures
Extreme temperatures can negatively impact your eBike battery's performance and lifespan. Do not expose the battery to very cold or very hot temperatures, as this can cause permanent damage. Store the battery in a cool and dry place when not in use.
3. Use the Original Charger
Always use the original charger that came with your eBike.
4. Avoid Overcharging
Do not leave your eBike battery on charge for an extended period after it has reached full capacity. Overcharging can strain the battery cells and shorten their lifespan. Unplug the charger as soon as the battery is fully charged.
By following these guidelines, you can optimize the performance and lifespan of your eBike battery, ensuring many enjoyable rides for years to come.
What are the Australian e-bike laws?
Visit your local state government website for latest e-bike laws. Generally, motor power must not exceed 250W, and the max pedal assist speed must be 25 km/h.
When it comes to road legal eBike laws in Australia, it is important to note that you should always check your local laws for the latest rules and regulations. However, there are some general guidelines that apply across the country (at the time of this writing):
- A road legal eBike typically must have a maximum motor continuous power of 250W. However, in New South Wales (NSW), the maximum power allowed is 500W.
- The maximum pedal assist speed for a road legal eBike is 25 km/h.
- If the eBike is equipped with a throttle, it must be locked to a maximum speed of 6 km/h. This means the throttle can be used as a start aid to begin your ride and gain some momentum, but once you reach 6 km/h, you must start pedaling and use the pedal assist mode.
- In pedal assist mode, the motor provides assistance as you pedal. On higher pedal assist levels, you may find that you barely need to put force on the pedals, resulting in a similar riding experience to using an unlocked throttle.
